Giorno 3: Euro Cup-->Italian living room fort

Thursday, June 14, 2012

This afternoon, we watched Euro Cup with our gracious hosts, Fabio & Betta. Their friend came over and brought a homemade cake with plums. Fabio served it with cafe, but because he didn't want to miss any of the game, he prepared it in the living room using a camping stove!! Only now do I realize how badly I should have taken a picture! Alas. It was so nice to watch the game with them. They were a bit frustrated because what was supposed to be an easy win for Italy, ended in the tie. You can't underestimate the underdog drive, ya?

We spent the earlier half of the day walking around, sightseeing, and poking our noses into shops. One of them was a vintage clothing store where the excited owner kept finding me pretty things to try on. I was happy to leave with her choice of a super soft night gown "dagli anni settanti!").

Giorno 2: Colosseo e forum romani

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

We had dinner at a rad place we found on yelp. I'm quickly accumulating pics of happy EK when food arrives. The best part of my month was when I talked to my sweetest, dearest roomie from Venice tonight and learned we're going to meet up with her on Friday in Venice!!!

Giorno 1: Siamo Arrivati a Roma!!!

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

We were able to sleep on the plane and had a wonderful first day in Rome! We spent the afternoon exploring the neighborhood where we're staying, San Lorenzo. Our hostess recommended plenty of delicious places to eat and EK even got a haircut at the Italian barber! Those pics are on my camera so I will share later.

We're now back at the bnb and it's finally pajama jammy jammy time. Eric is watching Euro Cup and after this (trying for 1 post/day), I'm going to read some then stretch out and fall asleep in a bed! I think we're going to the Colosseum and Roman Forum tomorrow.

Here are some shots of our first explorations:

LUNA DI MIELE!

Waiting to catch our flight to Rome! We watched Roman Holiday on the flight here from Austin. Eric had never seen it and it'd been awhile for me. We wanted to sleep, but made ourselves stay awake in attempt to try and minimize jet lag. We will need to sleep on this next flight as it's about 8 hours and we'll arrive at 9:15 am. We are armed with dramamine, if need be!

I'm stoked to get this book from last summer that I had wanted read, but had been waiting for it to come out on paperback. Have you read it?

Katie, My Lady

Sunday, June 10, 2012

Here are some highlights from one of my best friend's, Katie's, insanely gorgeous wedding in La Jolla!!!!  Katie and I studied abroad together in Venice, Italy, for one year while we were both attending the University of California.  We were both art history majors, getting over break ups, LOVING Italy, and needless to say we hit it off immediately.  She has an incredibly huge, nurturing, fun-loving heart and you're bound to have hilarious, memorable stories from any time spent with her!!

I was completely honored when she traveled all the way to Austin to be my bridesmaid and was equally as honored and grateful when I was able to be her bridesmaid.  The ceremony overlooked the ocean; we could feel the ocean breeze on our faces and see surfers!!  The reception hall had an entire wall that opened up onto the ocean and allowed for incredible sunset views.  There was a delicious macaroni and cheese station, complete with sage and blueberries.  And the dancing during the reception was the best I've ever seen (leapfrogging, wheelbarrows--basically, unabashed ruling).  Words cannot sum up all of the love I have for this beautiful woman, her family and friends.  The weekend was truly magical!!!

The Bicycle Thief

I allowed myself one splurge in terms of honeymoon wardrobe--this super cool bike dress from anthro.  It was a bit messed up (missing buttons, ripped at the waist) in the store and even a little big so I didn't buy it at first.  After peeking around on ebay and seeing that it was going for $250!, I decided to ask for a discount, snatch this one up, and take it to my amazing seamstress, Jenny at Fine Stitch.    After Ms. Zooey Deschanel rocked it on The New Girl, I guess it drove the price way up!  Anyhow, a hefty in store 35% discount off the originial price + a mere $23 charge for alternations later, I have the dress in excellent condition for less than the original price.  :)  Now I'm ready to wander those cobblestone streets--hopefully looking a little less pouty than Jess, but happy to be half as cute!

BACK!!!

Thursday, June 7, 2012

Issues with the app I had been using to post directly from my phone, combined with the school year, led to a much longer break from here than I intended!  But I'm finally back!!  So many amazing things happened this past year --including marrying my best friend!!!!!  My plan is to slowly update with highlights, while trying to post more often.

First up, we're leaving for our Italian honeymoon this Monday!!  I am so incredibly excited!  I haven't been back since my year abroad in Venice, 2000-2001.  We'll be visiting Rome, Venice and Cinque Terre!! We've been able to book some incredible places to stay using airbnb, including this entire three floor tower in Rome!  I love that website.  It allows you to find such great spots and deals.  I'm very much looking forward to staying in places with kitchens so that we can get our booties to the Italian market and cook some delicious meals.
